NAME: Professor Aminu Hassan

TITLE/POSITION: Dean Faculty of Management Sciences

Professor Aminu Hassan is a scholar whose motivation for research and teaching is driven by the desire to stimulate learning, innovation, knowledge advancement, and progress. He started and completed primary and post-primary schools from 1984 to 1995. Prof. Hassan graduated from Bayero University Kano with an upper second-class honors degree in Accounting and Finance, after undergoing an IJMB programme at CAS Kano. He also bagged a master’s degree in accounting from Bayero University Kano and proceeded to Abertay University in Scotland, where he obtained a doctorate degree in Energy and Environmental Accounting.

Professor Hassan started his academic career at Bayero University Kano as a graduate assistant in the Department of Accounting, where he rose to the rank of Lecturer II. He held various ranks at Prince Muhammad Bin Fahd University (Assistant Professor), Abertay University Dundee (Lecturer & Senior Lecturer), and Federal University Dutsin-ma (Reader and Full Professor). He joined Federal University Dutse in October 2023 as a Professor of Accounting and was appointed the Ag. Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences in December 2023. Before joining FUD, Professor Hassan held various positions at FUDMA, including Head of Department of Accounting, Deputy Director of Advancement & Linkages, Director of Advancement & Linkages, as well as Congregation Representative to the Senate.

As a teacher and researcher who has been working in academia for 23 years, Prof. Hassan believes that attaining excellence in teaching is driven by research, professionalism, training, and experience. While training and experience are generally applicable, research and professionalism are specific. He had received numerous trainings that assisted him in sharpening his teaching and research skills, especially during his time as an academic staff member in the UK. Additionally, his diverse twenty-three-year experience acquired from working in Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, and the United Kingdom has equipped him with international teaching skills. Although, in general, he is able to teach the mainstream accounting subjects very well, his long-standing experience, research, and professionalism support teaching International Accounting, Sustainability Accounting, Sustainable Finance and Oil and Gas Accounting. His ability to deliver excellent teaching in Accounting is fuelled by the consistent conduct of active research for over 20 years.

Prof. Hassan enjoys breaking barriers and extending frontiers beyond the traditional accounting and finance subject areas. His research interest focuses on the role of Accounting and Finance in the relationship between energy, society, and the environment within the broad area of Sustainability Accounting and Finance. Over the years, he has published in several top-notch journals such as Accounting Forum, International Review of Financial Analysis, Sustainability Accounting Management and Policy Journal, Journal of Sustainable Finance and Investment, International Journal of Sustainable Energy, International Journal of Energy Sector Management, and OPEC Energy Review.
