Name: Dr. Sani Damamisau Mohammed
Title(s)/Position: Head of Taxation Department

Sani Damamisau Mohammed Ph. D, is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Taxation, Faculty of Management Sciences, Federal University Dutse. He had his early educational career at Central Primary School Shira in Shira Local Government, Bauchi State, Nigeria from 1977-1982 and obtained the Certificate of Primary Education. From there, he proceeded to Government Science Secondary School Azare 1982-1986 and obtained General Certificate of Education (GCE) examined by the West African Examination Council (WAEC). He obtained a Bachelors’ degree (B. Sc.) in Accounting with Second Class Upper division (2:1) from Bayero University Kano in July 2003. He worked with the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF) 2003-2012. It was while working with the OAGF that I gained admission into the Nigerian College of Accountancy Jos, Plateau state in 2004/2005 academic session for my Post Graduate Accounting Certificate which I completed in May 2005. I got inducted into the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) in 2007 thereby becoming a Certified National Accountant (CNA).  He secured sponsorship of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) for M. Sc. in Oil and Gas Accounting at the University of Abertay, Scotland, United Kingdom in the 2009/2010 academic session. He completed his M. Sc. with Distinction in 2010 and resumed work with OAGF in 2011 and thereafter, withdrew his service with the OAGF and joined Federal University Dutse in April 2012. He secured another sponsorship by PTDF for Ph. D. program in the same University of Abertay, Scotland, United Kingdom in the 2012/2013 academic session. He completed his Ph. D. (Oil & Gas Accounting) with specific focus on social and environmental disclosure in the Nigerian and UK oil and gas industry in 2016. He has to his credit 30 publications in local and international peer reviewed Journals one of which is in a two star ABS ranked Journal. Similarly, he has attended and presented papers in international and local conferences within and outside Nigeria. He held numerous administrative responsibilities in the Department, Faculty and the University at large such as being Acting Head of Department, Head of Department, Acting Deputy Dean and Acting Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences. His research interests are on taxation, social and environmental accounting, sustainability accounting, and governance.

History of the Department of Taxation

The Department of Taxation that is offering B. Sc. Taxation is one of the five departments that were commenced with in the 2018/2019 academic session in the Faculty of Management Sciences (FMS). The vision of the Department which is consistence with the vision of Federal University Dutse (FUD) is to excel in educating men and women for competence and character in the field of Taxation. Likewise, the mission of the Department which is in agreement with the mission of Federal University Dutse is that it exits to cultivate learning, develop knowledge, and foster free exchange of ideas in the field of taxation. Thus, the Department focuses on strong tradition of distinguished scholarship, research, teaching, and service that is grounded in a commitment to increasing and disseminating scientific, humanistic, and social knowledge for the benefit of larger society. The Department commenced its 2018/2019 academic session with Thirty (30) students some of which forms the first set of graduates of the Department at the end of the 2022/2023 academic session. As at end of the 2022/2023 academic session, the Department has total of One Hundred and Eighty Three (183) students spread across Level 100 to 400.

Admission Requirements into B. Sc. Taxation Program

In addition to the general University entry requirements for University Matriculation Examination (UME), candidates seeking admission into Department of Taxation, Federal University Dutse, must possess the following requisite requirements:

  1. Five credits in the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) or its equivalent in relevant subject areas, including English Language, Mathematics, Economics and any other two management science subjects at not more than two sittings;
  2. Admission by Direct Entry; candidates must possess one of the following qualifications:
  1. a) GCE A’ Level/IJMB with passes in Accounting or Economics and at least one other subject. In addition, candidates are expected to possess five credit passes at GCE/NECO/NABTEB/SSCE O’ levels including English Language, Mathematics, Economics and any other two management science subjects at not more than two sittings.
  2. b) National Diploma in Accounting, Taxation, Finance, Banking and Finance, Business Administration and other relevant courses from approved institutions with a grade not below Upper Credit. This is in addition to O’ Level requirements. Similarly, candidates with any other good and acceptable Diploma could be admitted.
  3. c) Final certificate of relevant professional bodies in addition to O’ Level requirements.
  4. d) Candidates with three (3) advanced level passes in the relevant subjects may be admitted into the second year (Level II) of the programme. To be eligible for admission, candidates must satisfy the Mathematics and English requirements. Please note that the department does not accept Diploma Certificate obtained from other Universities.

Staff of the Department of Taxation

The Department has Eight (8) academic and one non-academic staff as at end of 2022/2023 academic session with expectation of more to be recruited. However, there are two Senior Lecturers and One Professor from the Departments of Accounting and Banking and Finance that are servicing the Department.
