Dr.Abdulsalam Mas’ud is the Acting Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences. Dr Abdulsam Mas’ud holds
B.Sc. Accounting (Second Class Upper) from Bayero University Kano in 2005, M.Sc. Oil and Gas Accounting (Distinction) from University of Abertay Dundee, United Kingdom in 2010 and PhD from Universiti Utara Malaysia in 2016. Dr Mas’ud is a member of Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) with designation as Certified Chartered Accountant (CCA).
He is also a member of Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), United Kingdom with two designations as Associate Chartered Management Accountant (ACMA) and Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA).
Dr Mas’ud has been in tertiary education system since 2008, when he joined the services of Hussaini Adamu Federal Polytechnic, Kazaure, Jigawa State where he served as Deputy College Examination Officer at the College of Foundation Studies and Entrepreneurship Education (COFOSEE) between 2012 to 2013. He also served as Head of Accountancy Department of the institution from 2016 to 2018.
In 2018, he was engaged by Universiti Utara Malaysia as Senior Lecturer at the Department of Accounting and Taxation, the position he held until April 2020. While at Universiti Utara Malaysia, Dr Mas’ud was appointed a Coordinator of the Principles of Taxation Teaching Group where he coordinated a group of seven teaching faculty of which two were Associate Professors. In April 2020, Dr Mas’ud joined the service of Federal University Dutse as Senior Lecturer and appointed Acting Dean of the Faculty of Management Science in November 2020, and reappointed in November 2021.
Dr Mas’ud was an accidental unionist. He served as the Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP), Hussaini Adamu Federal Polytechnic Kazaure Chapter and was one time Zonal Treasurer of Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP) Zone A (covering nine states Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Niger, Jigawa, Sokoto and Zamfara).
Dr Mas’ud has been working on number of international research grants since 2013. He worked on Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS) awarded by Malaysian Ministry of High Education between 2014 to 2016. In 2017, he won another International Research Grant from Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group through Islamic Research and Training Institute (IRTI) which was concluded in 2018. In 2018, Dr Mas’ud won another International Research Grant from International Center for Tax and Development (ICTD), United Kingdom with funding from Bills and Melinda Gates Foundation which was concluded in 2019. In 2020, together with other co-researchers, Dr Mas’ud won another research grant from Inland Revenue Board Malaysia (IRBM) on the taxation of High Net-worth Individuals (HNWI) in Malaysia, the project was completed early 2021. Currently, he is currently leading another research with funding from Bills and Melinda Gates Foundation.
He contributed immensely in the area of taxation by presenting his research findings in important national fora related to taxation such Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) Peer Learning Event, Nigerian Tax Research Network (NTRN) and the 1st Jigawa Tax Summit.
An award recipient of Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) Article of Merit Award for 2015 Award Year for two article, Dr Mas’ud has published over 50 articles with about 24 published in Journals indexed by Web of Science and SCOPUS including Q1 journals such as Energy Policy Journal, Journal of Cleaner Production and Heliyon Journal. He has to his credit over 540 citations in Google Scholar including 11 h-index and 13 i10-index.
Dr Mas’ud has been actively engaged in community services. He was one time Financial Secretary and later Acting Chairman of Kazaure Emirate Progressive Forum (KEPF) and currently serves as its Treasurer. He has been Chairman of its Education Committee since 2017, through his committee, the first Kazaure Emirate Educational Symposium was organized which was attended by prominent personalities and educational stakeholders within the Emirate.
