Dr. Lawal Danjuma is an Associate Professor of Medical/Public Health Microbiology. He was
born on 3 rd December 1978. He attended Bayero University, Kano from 2001- 2005 for his
undergraduate studies, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Applied Biology
(Environmental Biology). In 2012 he obtained his Master of Science in Microbiology
(Medical/Public Health Microbiology) from Bayero University, Kano. He also obtained his Ph.D.
in Microbiology (Medical/Public Health Microbiology) in 2018 from University Putra Malaysia,
Malaysia.
In his Academic pursuit, he is in academia for over 15 years, he has taught different aspects of
Microbiology at all levels of undergraduate and postgraduate and supervises
undergraduate, postgraduate at both PGD, MSc, and Ph.D. in the Department of
Microbiology and Biotechnology, FUD. His research interest and experience include
Medical/Public Health Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, PCR, Cell Culture, Gel
Electrophoresis, Flow Cytometry, RNA Extraction, Primary Cell Culture, Stem Cell
Differentiation, Histology, Stem Cell culture, Stem Cell Isolation, Cell Differentiation, NGS
Library Preparation, Laboratory Animal handling.
He has over 20 scholarly publications in relation to his field of specialization in high-impact international and national journals, he also attended workshops, conferences,
seminars across the globe, he presented academic papers during conferences in Asia,
and locally at home. He is an Editorial Board Member of the International Journal of
Microbiology and Biotechnology (IJMB), Peer Reviewer of Plant Cell Biotechnology and
Molecular Biology, Peer Reviewer of Asian Journal of Research and Reports in Hepatology.
He has been a lecturer in the Department of Community Health, School of Health Technology Kano
from 2007 – 2013, before joining the services of Federal University Dutse in 2013.
He is a member of academic and scientific societies like the Nigerian Society for Microbiology,
Biotechnology Society of Nigeria, Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, Malaysian Society
for Stem Cell Therapy, Malaysian Society for Medical Microbiology and Parasitology.
He is happily married with children.

The Department of Microbiology and Biotechnology is one of the Departments in the University.
It was curved out of the Department of Biological Sciences in 2016. The department started with
a Bachelor of Sciences (B.Sc.) in Microbiology and Biotechnology. The Department shares the
vision, mission, philosophy and core values upon which the Federal University Dutse was
established. The Department is currently running undergraduate programmes in Microbiology
and Biotechnology, and hoping to offer Postgraduate programmes in future. The programmes are
thoroughly grounded in course work, practical, seminars and research project that expose the
students to the length and breadth of the Microbiology and Biotechnology, respectively. It is
hoped that after undergoing this programmes, students will be equipped with knowledge of
providing goods and services for the benefit of mankind.
DEPARTMENTAL ADMINISTRATION
The department has a Head of Department, a level coordinators for the levels and examination
officer all of whom are Academic staff. There are numbers of non-academic staff too belonging
to technical and administrative cadre whom all join hands to run the departmental affairs.
