NAME: Dr. Sani Yahaya
Title(s)/Position: Head of Department
Dr. Sani Yahaya is an accomplished academic and researcher with over 18 years of progressive teaching, research, and leadership experience in higher education. He holds a PhD in Islamic Banking and Finance from Kolej University Insaniah, Malaysia, complemented by a Master’s degree in Banking and Finance from Bayero University Kano and a BSc. Ed. Economics from Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto. As an associate Professor at Federal University Dutse, Dr. Yahaya has demonstrated expertise in Islamic finance, sustainable economic development, and financial inclusion. His extensive research contributions are evident in several international peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations, reflecting his commitment to advancing knowledge in Islamic banking, entrepreneurship, and economic empowerment. Dr. Yahaya has a strong administrative track record, including serving as Acting Dean, Head of Department, and Faculty Examination Officer, showcasing his leadership, organizational, and quality assurance skills. His professional memberships, including Fellowships with the Institute of Islamic Finance Professionals and the Strategic Institute for Natural Resources and Human Development, underscore his credibility and influence in the field. Dr. Yahaya is a skilled educator with proven experience in academic research and student mentorship. He combines his passion for education with deep expertise in Islamic banking and finance to foster innovation, promote financial inclusion, and contribute to sustainable economic growth.

VISION
To be one of the famous Actuarial Science Department in Africa, recognized for capacity development in producing future professional actuaries in line with the aspiration of every Actuarial scholar.
MISSION
To produce intellectually, technically and ethically sound Actuarial Science graduates that can give selfless, component and value adding services to the society and who are capable of qualifying as professional Actuaries, through a team of very dedicated staff, who place high premium on research and effective teaching.
PHILOSOPHY
To produce skilled manpower who will be able to manage and perform productively in the insurance, finance, and other relevant industries.
AIM AND OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME
The aim of the programme is to facilitate the production of result-oriented world class managers/professionals for both the industry and government who, through the training and skills acquired, would be able to make significant contribution towards the economic, political and social development of Nigeria.
The specific objectives are:
- To create competent manpower in the Actuarial Science area specialization that would meet international standard both professionally and academically.
- To facilitate an easy access for the products of the department to qualify in all relevant professional examinations within relatively short period time.
- To establish beneficial linkages both locally and internationally with academic and professional institutions/bodies, that would help in broadening the capabilities, competence and exposure of the products of the department.
- To become one of the leading Actuarial Science departments in Nigeria in the near future; and
- To facilitate and acquire the examination/training status of a number of professional bodies relevant to the Actuarial Science industry within the next five years.

Actuarial Science | The prospective candidate for a 4-year degree programme is expected to have obtained credit passes in five Senior Secondary Certificate (SSC) subjects or its equivalent including English Language and Mathematics and any three of the following subjects: Further Mathematics, Economics, Geography, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Studies, Biology, Financial Accounting, Commerce, Business Methods and Statistics at not more than two sittings. |
A candidate must possess five SSC (or its equivalent) credits passes at not more than two sittings including English Language and Mathematics and any three of the following subjects: Further Mathematics, Economics, Geography, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Studies, Biology, Financial Accounting, Commerce, Business Methods and Statistics at not more than two sittings, together with any of the following: 1. Principal passes at IJMB/JUPEB Examinations in at least two subjects, one of which must be Mathematics, Economics, Geography, Computer Studies, Business Management, Chemistry, Physics, Computer studies and Statistics. 2. Diploma/ National Diploma in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Computer Studies, Geography, Physics, Chemistry, Insurance, Accounting, Financial Studies or Banking and Finance, Business Administration or any other relevant programme recognized by the University with a pass at not less than Lower Credit. 3. Professional Actuarial Certificates; Associate/Fellow of recognized actuarial bodies or any other relevant professional bodies approved by the Senate |

A candidate must possess five SSC (or its equivalent) credits passes or its equivalent including English Language and Mathematics and any three (3) of the following subjects: Financial Accounting, Economics, Data Processing, CRS/IS, Further Mathematics, Geography, Government, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Commerce, Business Methods, Civic Education and Insurance at not more than two sittings with any of the following: 1. Principal passes at Advanced Level /IJMB/JUPEB Examinations in at least two subjects including Economics and any other subject from the following: Geography, Financial Accounting, Government, Agricultural Science, Business Management, Business Studies, Chemistry, Physics, Computer studies and Statistics. 2. Diploma/ National Diploma in Insurance, Risk Management, Actuarial Science, Economics, Accounting, Agricultural Science, Financial Studies, Business Administration, Business Studies, Business Management, Public Administration, or Banking and Finance, or any other relevant programme recognized by the University with a pass and not less than Lower Credit. 3. Professional Certificates in Insurance, Risk Management or Actuarial Insurance; Associate/Fellow of recognized bodies or any other relevant professional bodies approved by the Senate of the University. |
