Abubakar Muhammad Miyim is a Senior Member of IEEE (SMIEEE) and COREN Registered Engineer who received his Diploma in Electronics and Communications Engineering from Kaduna Polytechnic, Nigeria; M.Sc. in Radio Communications Engineering from Odessa National Academy of Telecommunications (ONAT), Ukraine and Ph.D. in Electrical, Electronics and Systems Engineering from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Malaysia.
He worked in the telecommunication sector for 11 years where he rose from Senior Technical Officer to the rank of Manager Radio Transmission Engineer. He was a project manager for the CDMA expansion in the SW Zone of the Company, responsible for the Installation, Testing and Monitoring of Two (2) MSCs, Two (2) BSCs and over 180 BTS.
He is a member of International Advisory Board for Journal of Communications Technology, Electronics and Computer Science (JCTECS); International Journal for Systems, Control and Communications (IJSCC); Journal of Internet Technology (JIT) and member of International Computer Science and Engineering Society (ICSES). A reviewer of several Journals such as: Journal of Personal Wireless Communication, Arabian Journal of Science and Engineering (AJSE), Institute of Electrical Technologies (IET) Communications Journal and IEEE sponsored conferences. He has over 30 publications in peer reviewed journals and conferences both local and international with more than 50 citations.
His research interests are in Wireless & Mobile Communication Networks, Cooperative Communication, Green Communication, Satellite Communications, Cloud Computing, Algorithm, Mobility Management and Radio Resource Management for supporting Future Generation (4GB) Networks.
The Department of Computer Science was established in 2012/2013 session with two (2) academic staff and thirty (30) students at the take-off. Presently, the Department has a total of three hundred and fourteen (314) students, twenty five (25) academic staff on permanent and pensionable status and 15 non-teaching and supporting staff.
As one of the norms in the University system, the Department operates a committee system for transparency and for giving equal opportunity to staff in rendering their services.
The Department operates in two blocks that house the HODs office, Academic staff offices, Laboratories and Lecture rooms. The Department has 4 well equipt Laboratories, Computers with learning software in a friendly and Conducive environment. Additionally, the Lecture rooms are equip with interactive smart boards, projectors and all the necessary teaching and learning materials.
The academic staff of the Department are mostly young graduates of some renowned Universities that cut across the globe. The Department is in the process of introducing new undergraduate programmes in software Engineering, Cyber Security and Information Technology (ICT). The potentials of the Department are numerous among in preparation to introduce postgraduate programmes in the nearest future.
