Dr. Bashir hailed from Gumel Local Govt. Area of Jigawa State. He holds Ph.D. in Agricultural Extension from University Putra Malaysia. He also acquires Certificate of National Adaptation Plans: Building Climate Resilience Agriculture from United States Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), M.Sc. Agricultural Economics from Bayero University Kano (BUK) in 2011, Post Graduate Diploma in Education from the Federal College of Education Kano and B. Agriculture from University of Maiduguri, Borno State in 2005. Dr Muktar also has a certification of Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)

He is the current Ag. Dean, Faculty of Agriculture and Director Centre for Agricultural Research & Extension Services (CARES). Before now, he held the position of Assistant Faculty Examination Officer, Faculty Post Graduate Coordinator and Departmental Examination Officer. Before he joined the University, he has previously worked with the Presidency as a Technical Assistant to the Senior Special Assistant to the President on MDGs where he contributed immensely towards the achievement of MDGs in the country, a feat that earned him commendation letter from the Presidency.

He took appointment with the Federal University Dutse as Assistant Lecturer in November, 2012 and rises to the present rank. Dr. Muktar has demonstrated strong commitment to both undergraduate and post graduate teaching while also conducting robust research in his academic field. He is known for impactful research in Agricultural Extensions in the university, whose growing research portfolio compliments a long-standing commitment to excellence in teaching and student mentoring. He is consulting for private bodies and government agencies in agricultural issue, agricultural advisory service and e-extension.

He has published more than 60 articles in educational journals as well as book chapters and technical research reports for State and Federal Agencies. He is a frequent presenter at national and international conferences.

His hobbies are Reading, Travelling and Badminton.

He is happily married with three children.

CARES Vision and Mission Statement

CARES was established in February 2017 sequel to the merger of ‘Centre for Agricultural Research & Food Security’ and ‘Agricultural Extension Outreach Centre’

To be a regional hub for action-research and extension delivery under an ecologically sound and sustainable agriculture for improve livelihoods and capacity building

Our Mission

To strengthen the structural base for `sustainable agricultural development and enhance food and nutrition security at the local, national and regional levels

Our Mandate

The overall aim of the CARES is to strengthen the structural base in terms of agricultural research and extension with a view to making it more responsive to the yearnings and aspirations of farmers and other stakeholders within and outside the university.

The key objectives are to:

  • ensure that communities in mandate areas have access to extension information and skills to improve livelihoods, enhance food and nutrition security, natural resources and energy systems;
  • initiate and conduct action-oriented research in all facet of agriculture and biotechnology;
  • engage in large scale agri-business ventures through direct and indirect participation in production, processing, storage, preservation and distribution of agricultural commodities and produce such as seeds, feeds, crops, pulses and animal;
  • promote and support food security policies and activities based on sound advocacy, research and development;
  • mobilize and link communities with partners and agencies for sustainable solutions to ending food insecurity and poverty among the vulnerable;
  • engage in training, learning and consultancy focusing on capacity development of staff from Agricultural Colleges, Private Commercial Farms, Teaching and Research Farms, farmers and farmers ‘group.

Partnership and Collaboration

The Centre by its mandate is to bring about a desirable change in farming community. One of the strategic actions for success was to seek and obtain collaboration with local institutions at the grassroots as well as with donors, partners and collaborators.

In terms of research, CARES is expected to provide environment in which knowledge is created in a participatory manner through various action-research activities the results of which are crucial in making inform decisions. The Centre is also expected to extend practical knowledge acquired from research to the catchment rural communities and build capacity of farmers, extension and research fellows and by extension the students. Consequently, CARES has requested notable local and international organization for collaboration and partnership.
