Ibrahim Khalil Adam, is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Biochemistry, Federal University Dutse, Nigeria and the Head of the Department. He is highly involved in the teaching, research and training in the field of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology since 2008. He was born in Loko, Nasarawa LGA, Nasarawa State in 1981. He obtained B.Sc. Biochemistry from Bayero University Kano in 2005; M.Sc. Industrial & Commercial Biotechnology in 2009 from the University of Newcastle, UK and Ph.D. in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology / Biotechnology from the University of Leeds, UK in 2013.
Ibrahim’s lecturing career started in 2008 at Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Nasarawa State, where he worked for seven years. Following his appointment as a Senior Lecturer in Biochemistry by the Northwest University, Kano (Now, Yusuf Maitama Sule University), he moved to the University in April, 2015; in December of the same year, he moved to Federal University Dutse as a Senior Lecturer. In 2016, the Department of Biochemistry was established in FUD and Ibrahim became the pioneer Head of the Department, a position he served for two years. In May, 2018 he was elected as HOD, Biochemistry.
Similarly, in April, 2017 he was appointed the Dean, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences and he led the Biochemistry Department and the Faculty to successful resource assessment and approval by the NUC. Thus, the commencement of four programmes; B.Sc. Biochemistry, B.Sc. Human Anatomy, B.Sc. Human Physiology and MBBS in October, 2017. He has served and is still serving in various University Committees at the Central and Faculty levels at both NWU & FUD; Appointment & Promotions Committee, Senate, Senate Business Committee, Committee of Provost, Deans & Directors, Accreditation & Resource Verification Committees, PG Board, Central Staff Training & Development Committee, Examination Malpractice Committee to mention a few.
In addition to the above, Ibrahim has supervised tens of Undergraduate projects and a couple of postgraduate works. He is involved in researches in Proteomics & Protein Engineering, Protein Purification & Enzymology, Protein Trafficking & Endomembrane system (Cell Biology), Nanobiotecnology, Renewable Energy & Biofuel Development, Innovative Starch Processing, Biochemical Nutrition & Toxicology among others. He has more than thirty articles in national & international journals. He has attended several conferences, workshops and trainings in Nigeria and abroad. He is a member of the Biochemical Society, UK; European Network for Protein Endomembrane Research; Nigerian Society of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and Biotechnology Society of Nigeria.
The Federal University Dutse received its charter from the Federal Government of Nigeria on February, 9th 2011. The University is located in the Capital of Jigawa state, Dutse, an ancient town in the North-Western Nigeria with easy access to major metropolitan areas such as Kano, Bauchi, Maiduguri, and Kaduna.
The need for training of manpower gave birth to the establishment of the Department of Biochemistry. It was originally in the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, and was later transferred to the Faculty of Science. The Department is servicing other relevant programs and commenced B.Sc. Biochemistry in 2017 / 2018 Session.
Following the Senate approval, efforts were made to put the necessary physical structures in place. In addition to these, arrangements were made to procure all the necessary equipment and employ relevant staff.
