Name: Professor Fatima Batul Mukhtar
Professor Fatima Batul Mukhtar was born in Kano city of Nigeria on 23rd May, 1963. She attended Shahuci Primary School from 1969 to 1973 and Shekara Girls Primary School from 1973 to 1975. She attended Government Girls College Dala from 1975 to 1980 for her Secondary School Education. She later joined School of Basic Studies in the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University Zaria for one year IJMB Program from 1980 to 1981. She was accordingly admitted into the Faculty of Science in the same University in 1981. She later graduated in 1984 with Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Botany. Upon completion of her first degree, she was posted to the Kano State Ministry of Agriculture where she served for her one year mandatory youth service scheme (N.Y.S.C.) from 1984 to 1985. She pursued her Postgraduate Degree in the famous Bayero University Kano where she was awarded a Master of Science (M.Sc.) Degree in Botany (Plant physiology) in 1994 and was immediately employed as an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Biological Sciences by the same University.
She was promoted to Lecturer II in 1997 and Lecturer I in 2000. While she was still a Lecturer I, she concluded her Doctoral Degree in the same University and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Botany (Plant physiology) in 2001.She was promoted to Senior Lecturer, Reader and later Professor in 2003, 2007 and 2010 respectively. She was also a Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences Northwest University, Kano (On leave of absence from Bayero University, Kano.) in 2013 to 2016.
Professor Fatima Batul Mukhtar has held many responsibilities in the University from level coordinator, Head of Department, Dean, and Deputy Vice-Chancellor before becoming a substantive Vice-Chancellor for the Federal University Dutse in March, 2016.

Journal for the Tropics from 2004 to date, Editor in Journal of Agricultural Technology (JAT) from 2002 to date, Editor in Hikima Journal of the School of Art and Social Sciences, Jigawa State College of Education, Gumel from 2005 to date and also Editor in International Journal of Pure and Applied Sciences from 2009 to date. She was a member – Accreditation Panel – National Board of Technical Education. She was an External Examiner at Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto between 2008 and 2011, External Examiner at NDA Kaduna from 2013 to date. She has supervised more than 140 undergraduate projects, more than 20 M.Sc. Theses and more than 5 Ph.D. students. Prof Fatima has published many articles in both local and international reputable journals. Founder of the Kano Botanic Garden, she is happily married and blessed with five children.
