Usman Haruna, a Professor of Agricultural Economics from the Federal University Dutse (FUD), Nigeria, has been involved in teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Agricultural Economics since 1997. Born at Hadejia, Jigawa State in 1965; he attended Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, where he obtained a Bachelors degree in Agriculture in 1989. Later in 1995, he obtained a Masters degree in Agricultural Economics from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi. Also, he obtained a PhD degree in Agricultural Economics in 2002, from the same University.
He worked as an Agricultural Officer with both Kano and Jigawa States between 1990 to 1997. Later he transferred his services to ATBU Bauchi, where he rose from an Assistant Lecturer in 1997 to a Reader in 2009. That same year he was appointed as a substantive and pioneer Provost of the Jigawa State College of Agriculture Hadejia. Upon completion of his tenure, he joined the services of the Federal University Dutse as a Professor of Agricultural Economics in 2013. He is also, involved in several research activities over the years, sponsored by the World Bank (Fadama & CSDP Projects), UNDP, ADENI (French Government),etc. His major areas of research focused on Sustainable Agricultural Production Systems(SAPS), Farm Management, Agricultural Marketing, Agricultural Policy and Projects Management as well as Rural Development.
Further, he supervised more than 40 Postgraduate students researches and published more than 80 academic articles in reputable national and international journals and proceedings. He is also, a member of five academic associations and served as the Head of Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension four times, both in ATBU and FUD. In 2014, he was appointed the Dean, Faculty of General Studies, Federal University Dutse. Also that same year, he was elected to serve as as the West Africa Representative in the Executive Council of the Africa Farm Management Association (AFMA) Cape Town, South Africa. In 2015, he was elected as a Senate Representative in the University Governing Council.
Prof Haruna is happily married and blessed with five children.
