Department of Mathematics
The Department of Mathematics is one of the earliest Degree programmes mounted since the inception of Federal University Dutse in 2011. The Department offers a four-year programme leading to a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Degree in Mathematics with a view to produce graduates with sound knowledge in both theory and practical applications of Mathematics.
The Department also offers a Postgraduate Diploma in Industrial Mathematics (PGDIM).
The programmes in the Department places emphasis on specialization in the areas of pure and applied Mathematics to enhance global relevance and competitiveness.
Motto: The motto of the Department is “Think logically and creatively”.
The Department has graduated three sets of undergraduate students and one set of Postgraduate students as of 2016/2017 session.
Headship of the Department:
The pioneer Head of Department was Prof. Shafiu Jibrin who headed the Department from 7th June to December, 2013 and then 9th July, 2015 to January 3, 2016. He is a Professor of Numerical Analysis.
Dr. Saminu Iliyasu Bala was the second Head of Department. He headed the Department from December, 2013 to 29th April, 2014. Dr. Saminu Iliyasu Bala was a Senior lecturer on sabbatical from Bayero University, Kano.
The next Head of Department was Dr. Abubakar Muhammad Kwami whose tenure spanned the period 15th May, 2014 to 31st March, 2015. He was a Senior lecturer on sabbatical from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi.
The current Head of Department is Dr. Ali Maianguwa Shuaibu. He started his teaching career at Kaduna Polytechnic on December 14, 1998 as an Assistant lecturer and rose to the rank of Principal lecturer on January 1, 2015. He joined the service of Federal University Dutse on Secondment from Kaduna Polytechnic in 2014 and finally transferred his service to Federal University Dutse in 2016 as a Senior lecturer.
Dr. Ali Maianguwa Shuaibu is Member of several professional associations, which include the Mathematical Association of Nigeria (MAN), Mathematical Society of Nigeria (MSN) and Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) based in USA.
